Los Angeles is a city that offers variety cuisines. Today I would like to introduce one of my favorite restaurants of all time in Southern California, Blu Jam Café.
Blu Jam is the 2012 Best Brunch Winner on Los Angeles Hotlist, which “verified more than 28,000 votes to determine this year's winners. The 159 winners competed with more than 6,500 nominees to be named the BEST of Los Angeles HOTLIST.” In addition, when you search “brunch” on Yelp.com, Blu Jam is ranked the 2nd best with 4 stars and 1572 reviews, lost to Eat This Café that is ranked 5 stars but only with 44 reviews.
If you think Blu Jam is just like all other popular restaurants that are only crowded with massive lines outside the restaurant on weekends. Then You Are Wrong! Blu Jam is packed EVERYDAY.
I’ve been to Blu Jam a few times during both weekends and weekdays, the wait is usually at least an hour on weekend when I arrived at 10 am and 20 to 30 minutes on weekdays. That is how popular Blu Jam is.
So what makes the wait worthwhile that everyone, including me, is willing to spend day off waiting outside in the sun? Their dining environment and food are definitely what attract me.
Blu Jam Café is located on Melrose. It is serves not only breakfast all day long, 7 days a week, but also a full lunch menu, including organic salads, gourmet sandwiches and a variety of delicious main courses. The hours are Monday to Sunday and 8 am to 5 pm.
Although there are indoor and outdoor seating available, the seating area is still fairly small for the amount of people wanting to eat here. The tables were placed appropriately so you didn't feel too cramped. Everything was very clean and neat. The decor was very chic.
Egg benedicts in Blu Jam never disappoint me.
There are 3 types of egg benedicts. The one in photo is Blu Jam benedict. It has poached eggs on a toasted English muffin with Black Forest Ham, crispy bacon, topped with hollandaise, served with potatoes. If you are a huge lover of runny egg yolks like me, you would definitely love their egg benedict. When you pierce through the egg yolk with fork, the liquid yellow center releases like air from a balloon. Not only the mix of egg yolk and the rich and creamy Hollandise Sauce, which has the perfect consistency and flavor, makes every bite of egg, meat and muffin less salty and tastier, but also bacon that is crispy but not too thick and burnt, makes the benedict more intriguing.
Best French Toast In Town
Crunchy French Toast is definitely Blu Jam’s signature dish. It was like no French toast I ever had before. Blu Jam cooked their French toast with egg brioche dipped in batter, rolled in crunchy corn flakes and grilled to perfection, topped with fresh bananas and berries, served with vanilla bean sauce. Its crunchiness simply makes me unlikely to put down the forks, and its sweetness is just the right amount; it’s not too sweet to make you drink water and tea all the time. The fresh banana and berries, and the vanilla bean sauce on the side give you the opportunity to either neutralize its sweetness with natural sourness from fruits or make it sweeter by dipping the vanilla bean sauce. I simply couldn’t stop eating it bite and after another bite every time I ordered it and always crave it right after finishing it.
So what are you still waiting for? Time to turn off your laptop and rush to Blu Jam Café to have a great feast!
